Whoosh – we left Barrow – May 1st of 2010 – We walked away from everything we owned. Left everything to Lucille Leavitt and her Husband.
Tens of thousands of dollars in tools, equipment and materials.
We left with just the clothes on our back. That is all we took. GONE !!

Spring whale hunting is over.. this year, for all practical purposes.
Barrow 3 small whales
Wainwright – No whales
Pt. Lay – One whale
Point Hope - Two whales Omnicks & Oktolliks Crews
Those are very sad numbers of actual food for almost 7 thousand people.
Barrow could have had a much higher success rate, if it were not for people (crews) [...]

We are finally out of the village to set up camp many miles out on the ocean ice – time for whaling -THE most exciting time of the year. The crew departed about 7:00 p.m. Monday Evening ! GOOD LUCK !

So, we stay at home and wait, for the winds to die down, before we can go back out on the trail.
Walking around the village of Barrow, it is obvious, people are preparing to go whaling out on the ocean ice for many weeks.

A phone call from Whaling Captain, Rex Rock, in Point Hope, was made to the President of the Alaska Eskimo Whaling Commission – Eugene Brower here in Barrow ! In about 4 days, we should see these whales migrating past the point here in Barrow Alaska.

We spotted polar bear tracks,, heading from Barrow, out to the ice where we are going to work on the trail.
After noticing that the tracks were coming from barrow, we look to see what / where is the destination and we follow, but nothing was sighted in our area this day.
